An exceptional place

"Everything about our stay at Yachana was wonderful: the food, our guide, the rooms, the site, the animals, the plants, the family atmosphere. We learnt so much from Douglas and his team, who are all kind, welcoming and accommodating. The place inspired and astonished me. If you’re considering a visit, don’t hesitate."

Traveling to Yachana is a great way to experience the Sierra and the Oriente. During your journey to Yachana, you will experience the differences in landscapes and vegetation driving from Quito 9350 feet (2850 meters) elevation through the central valley to the east and crossing the highest point along the route at the Papallacta Pass and the Tomb de La Virgen at 13,779 feet (4200 meters).

Papallacta is about 2 hours from Quito and a perfect place to stop and enjoy the thermal baths, stretch your legs and see hummingbirds. From here the road continues to descend as you pass beautiful waterfalls and views of the volcano Antisana as you approach the town of Baeza. There are a few restaurants along the way that we can recommend- ask your driver if you are getting hungry and he can help.

From Baeza to Yachana Lodge the route enters the region of the Oriente. Fun fact: This same route was taken by the Spanish conquer Francisco de Orellana in 1542, in his quest across the Amazon basin!

As you get closer, you will come to a dirt road and the green of the rainforest will surround you. This is the Amazon jungle and where you will find the Yachana Lodge.
