This is considered an extreme activity to visit an indigenous community.
This program takes 1.5 days and is not included in your regular package tour.
It starts by floating down a small river (it is too small for motors) for around 3 to 4 hours to an isolated indigenous village.
You will spend time visiting their forest, farms and homes.
You will camp in tents and wake up early for a traditional guayusa tea ceremony.
This activity requires guest to have the ability to walk through the forest for 1.5 to 2 hours to get to a road to be picked up to return to Yachana.
Make your honeymoon special at Yachana Lodge.
Our cabins offer spectacular river views, relax on your private porch with his and her hammocks and let the rhythms of the rainforest gently let you unwind and listen to the natural music of rainforest wildlife.

Upper Napo River (Class III – III+)
The ground transportation is a pleasure by itself!. The Upper Rio Napo is also known locally as the Rio Jatunyacu, which means “BIG WATER” in Quichua. “Big” is probably the best word to describe this river – BIG WAVES and BIG FUN!
A great trip for both beginners and experts alike, it has the perfect combination of exciting rapids, calm pools, and fabulous jungle scenery to delight everybody. Being the headwaters of one of the two rivers that form the mighty Amazon River, this is a rafting adventure that should not be passed up! No previous rafting experience is necessary.
We head out into the jungle for about 45 minutes to our put-in site near the village of Cando.
Before setting off we will fit you with a life jacket and helmet, give you a comprehensive safety briefing, introduce you to your guide, and then train your team in the paddling techniques needed to navigate our way down the river. Once ready the boat will push off from shore and within moments you will find yourself being drenched in the first rapids, Pimpilala being one of the biggest. After this first shot of adrenaline the fun continues as you crash through walls of whitewater, explore a hidden canyon, drift silently along sheer river cliffs, and take a swim in the refreshing waters.
During the trip we’ll stop on an expansive beach by the side of the river for a delicious picnic lunch that includes fresh tropical fruits and is served with soft drinks, juice and water. At the end of the trip we celebrate a great day out with a few ice-cold beers or sodas. The drive from the take-out back to Tena takes about ten minutes. Arrival time is approximately 4pm but may be earlier or later depending on the river level.
Season : All year
Includes: Private transportation Quito(*)-Tena-Yachana(**), Breakfats on route, Professional guides, top-of-the-line rafting equipment, safety kayaker, domestic transportation to the river and back, a delicious riverside lunch and unsurpassed safety.
Yachana Lodge & Yachana Foundation
The Yachana Foundation was created in 1991, the lodge in 1995. In 2013 a new lodge was built within our 2,500 acre rainforest reserve.
In February 2014 the new Yachana Training Center campus started to operate within Foundation land providing non-conventional, practical education and training for youth from throughout the Amazon.
Our Geotourism and educational programs combine exploration of the rainforest with cultural and social experiences not offered anywhere else within the Amazon of Ecuador for visitors interested in Service Learning, adult learning and meaningful, interactive tourism.
Amazon Culinary & Gastronomy Tour
Yachana Lodge is unique because of its emphasis and infrastructure related to culinary arts. In part this is because our awareness was raised as the recipients of a major grant from the National Geographic Conservation Trust for a project on the “Lost Foods of the Amazon”. The Amazon has one of the richest varieties of foods available due to its tropical climate. We have taken the traditional indigenous knowledge of preparation of many different kinds of foods and combined them with world class culinary techniques to produce a medley of foods and flavors not found outside the area.
Each day of your stay at Yachana Lodge will have different meals or preparations between meals of local foods where all of the participants can be directly involved, not just a bystander. Variations will occur depending on the time of year and what products are in season. (Click here)
